People with disabilities experience many challenges in life. Disabilities can take the form of hearing, speech, vision, physical or cognitive impairments, activity limitations or participation restrictions.
This combination of impairments, limitations and restrictions are a complex phenomenon, reflecting an interaction between features of a person’s body and features of the society in which he or she lives. As a result of this there are many issues that people with disabilities face daily.
In Vietnam, there are approximately 5.3 million people living with a disability, accounting for 6.63% of the total population.
The main causes of disabilities in Vietnam are:
• Congenital (35.8%)
• Diseases (32.34%)
• War consequences (25.56%)
• Work accidents (3.49%)
• Traffic accidents (1.16%)
