Top 10 Best Program Models 2009

In order to identify the programs providing the most effective support to people with disabilities, the campaign began by thoroughly researching all the organizations and groups in Vietnam that served people with disabilities, including those affected by AO/dioxin.

In November and December 2009, an Independent Panel of Experts consisting of national and international medical doctors, development workers, policy makers and representatives of people with disabilities was formed to evaluate thirty program models supporting people with disabilities, and recommended top 10 program models of 2009. The decision was made based on a set of criteria including response to urgent needs, involvement of local community, sustainability, qualifiable results, effectiveness and ability to replicate.

The top 10 program models consist of programs from local and international non-government organizations, mass organizations and self-help groups. They focus on assisting and supporting people with disabilities in Vietnam in different areas including health care and medical intervention, inclusive education, vocational training, job placement, awareness raising of disability issues, capacity building for local partners as well as early detection and prevention of defects.
