Disabilities can originate from many sources, including congenital defects, genetic defects, defects caused by Agent Orange, or by traffic accidents. In one particular case, a disability can be the result of an acute illness requiring surgery and the removal of the larynx, rendering patients mute for the rest of their lives.
In spite of a busy work schedule, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Phuc is always concerned about patients who become mute after laryngectomy surgery. He spent a long period of time researching, then eventually he established a club for laryngectomee patients. The process of re-discovering their voice is a great challenge for patients, and also for their families. Dr. Phuc has mobilized all funding and necessary assistance to maintain the club’s activities. Through the energy, determination and heart of Dr. Nguyen Dinh Phuc, the lives of these patients have been changed. However, clubs like this one need further financial support from organizations in order to expand and to develop its effective model across the country…
