Giang A Minh, born in 1963 in Son Binh – Tam Duong – Lai Chau, is a man with a disability. In the past, while sawing woods in the forest, he fell off the tree. That accident led to his mobility disability. From then on, he had to lie in bed all day long instead of working.
Mr. Minh lives in a poor family of eight members in a 40 square meter house. The house seems quite small in comparison to the size of his family. Their economic condition is very bad because there are only two main sources of income. Both his 39 year old wife and 20 year old son are farmers whose earnings are meager and unstable; their average monthly incomes are only USD40 and USD25 respectively. Although the family receive USD9 stipend a month from the authority, they can still hardly make both ends meet.
Mr. Minh hopes to have a wheelchair, which costs about USD200. With that, he can meet his own needs without other’s assistance, thus lightening the burden on other family members’ shoulder.
