Nguyen Manh Dien is a 13 year old boy who has been living with a mental disability since birth. Dien lives with his mother and brother in Bac Giang. He and his family have very little, they are forced to use dirty well water and have completely unsanitary conditions.
Dien has not had any luck since childhood. His father would have been the bread winner in the family but sadly passed away soon after Dien’s birth. While Dien is slightly held back by mental disability and difficulty walking, he never wants to give up school. He strives to keep up with his peers at school and is currently a student in 7th grade.
The family’s living conditions are terribly poor. Though Dien’s mother works as a farmer, she earns a meager $10 USD per month and that is not even enough for her sons to study. Dien is not healthy enough to work, and Dien’s brother only attends school, therefore, Dien’s mother is the only family member able to earn an income. Dien receives a $6 USD social allowance from the local government. His family’s life sees nothing better. Dien’s humble mother envisions a future where her sons can stand on their own feet and have a better life than hers.
Dien urgently needs assistance for treatment and subsidy. The assistance will undoubtedly offer Dien a brighter future. At the very least, he can continue his dream to attend school, and be able to afford books, tuition and clothes.
