Phuong, an eight-year-old girl from Thang Khe district, lives with her mother, younger sister, and older brother in a 10 x 10foot rented room without windows. Phuong suffers from a congenital malformed spine and requires an orthotic brace to walk.
Because of her disability, Phuong finds it difficult to move around and although she is willing, Phuong cannot help with the household chores and requires tremendous care and attention from other family members. She currently attends classes but her ability to continue is dwindling due to her family’s economic condition. An accident paralyzed Phuong’s older brother in his youth so their mother is the sole breadwinner in the family and earns $38 a month as a hired laborer. “The spirit is willing but the body is weak,” says her mother.
Phuong and her family desperately need a helping hand. Your donation will allow her family to buy a much needed orthotic brace. “I wish I had a brace, so that I could walk and help my mom with the housework,” Phuong shared. Though only $200, the price is too steep for her family and purchasing the brace would mean she would have to sacrifice education and therefore her chance at a brighter future.
